Episode 47: Baby, It's Cold Outside
Since this episode is pretty self-explanatory, how about an anecdote? As a child, I always thought that the line "See the blazing Yule before us," from Deck the Halls, made reference to a tradition dating back to the pagan roots of this holiday; namely, the ritualistic burning of Yul Brynner, star of such films as The King and I, on a large pyre fuelled by yew-wood and holly. And since I never knew the lyrics to "Baby, It's Cold Outside," past the title phrase, I assumed the rest of the verse was, "So warm yourself next to Brynner, aglow." But I digress... Merry Christmas!

Episode 46: New Old-Fashioned Way
Somewhere between the sacred and traditional Christmas carols and the chintzy slop we covered in Episode 45, there's the Christmas Song: It's pleasant, it's catchy, it's relatively recent yet seems destined to feature for many Christmases to come. So in our last "regular" episode of 2009, we're rocking out to our favourite Christmas songs. In a new old-fashioned way. Whatever that means.

Episode 45: Roasting Chestnuts
Many subscribe to the adage that if you don't have anything nice to say, you shouldn't say anything at all. Sorry, folks, this is not the time for etiquette: Christmas is at stake! So this week, we take a look at the most horrendous Yuletide musical offerings over the years. Why would you subject yourself to this gauntlet of chintz? Well, we here at Awkward Silences are experts at making catty remarks. Also, it's considered "with it" to like things ironically. So here we go...

Episode 44: It's Late
We're getting ever so close to the end: the end of the month, end of the year, end of the decade. But hopefully not at the end of your patience. Here it is, Episode 44, plump with sonorous delights. Plus, you know all those things you were thinking about lately? Yeah, we've thought about them too. Except we have microphones. And opinions. And delusions of greatness.

It's a veritable parade of hot topics this week, as we unleash a new rapid-fire segment. Plus, more Office talk than you could probably ever want. Oh, and, did you know we play music now? Enjoy!

Episode 42: Better with Age
Remembrance Day, the fall of the Berlin Wall, a recent Royal visit and forty years of Sesame Street: yes, we can find a link between the four. Gloomy November has a knack for casting our focus on old things, anniversaries and institutions. So enjoy this week's episode, as we dust off the old memory album (and play a variety of unconnected, modern music, just because we can).

It's just, Far & Away is this week's musical theme. And, as it happens, Episode 40 is far and away our most awkward of late, so, umm, aren't you keen on it, now?

To some, the early nineties were a horrible time for music. Well, actually, for many.
But some had the luck to be born such that tunes from this era would become indelibly etched on their souls. And some of them are pretty alright. Here, then, is our tribute to all that was big from 1990-95. Gnarly.

But until the lawsuit is settled, our Limp Bizkit retrospective will have to wait. In the meantime, here's Episode 26, dedicated to some forgettable band from California.

EPISODE 24, kinda
Folks,
While we strive to provide you with high-quality drivel here at ASR, there are moments where our synapses forget to fire. Whilst we rid ourselves of some mental gremlins and gear up for an exciting, fresh episode twenty-five, we present what we've dubbed our "Emergency Episode". This was done awhile ago, and consists mainly of Tyler trying to sound cool in the absence of a co-host, but hopefully it will keep at bay those of you desperate for your dose of weekly radio podcast. Cheers.

Fame Becomes Her
Folks, long-time listeners know that we tend to post new episodes and not much else. However, I'm going to make an exception here. Alissa's presentation must have gone well, because she got mentioned in The Hamilton Spectator!
I think that deserves a post all on its own. Congrats Alissa!
